Kerry Stares

Global Head of Legal

Kerry joined the Thomson Reuters Foundation in September 2015. As Global Head of Legal she leads a team of lawyers that works closely with TrustLaw’s NGO and social enterprise members to identify their legal needs and finds pro bono lawyers to assist. She also oversees TrustLaw’s relationships with its law firms and in-house legal teams worldwide.

Before joining the Foundation Kerry spent 10 years in the Dispute Resolution Division of Herbert Smith Freehills LLP. As a senior associate and solicitor-advocate she represented banks and financial institutions in a series of high profile cross-border disputes arising out of the financial crisis.

In 2012, Kerry left private practice to join the international development NGO, ActionAid UK, where she led the organisation’s advocacy to multi-national companies and co-authored Getting to Good: Towards Responsible Corporate Tax Behaviour – a leading paper on how a responsible approach to corporation tax benefits companies and developing countries.

Kerry has a first class degree in law and a scholarship from Cambridge University. She also holds a Masters degree in Human Rights from University College London.
