Emma Lough

Programme Manager, Europe

Emma joined the Thomson Reuters Foundation in December 2016 as Programme Manager for the UK and Europe. She leads TrustLaw’s strategy in the region to ensure social enterprises and non-government organisations have access to high quality free legal assistance. She also oversees key relationships with social innovation leaders and advocacy organisations to develop strategic legal research programmes. Emma has a special interest in forced migration and works on TrustLaw’s refugee rights initiative.

Emma is a qualified lawyer and experienced trainer in welfare, mental health and human rights law. Before joining the Thomson Reuters Foundation, she was Legal Project Manager of the EEA Women in Prison and Detention Project at The AIRE Centre, a specialist NGO helping individuals to access their rights under European law. Her previous pro bono work includes projects working with sex workers, trafficked women and ex-offenders.

Emma holds a Masters with distinction in International Law and was selected as a UK delegate on the National Council for Voluntary Organisations’ 2015 Young Leadership Exchange Programme to Japan.
