The Emergency Information Service (EIS) deploys in emergencies to help those affected by natural disasters get the information they need to survive and recover.
From lifesaving advice on how to purify water or spot the early symptoms of cholera to help understanding what services and compensation are available, EIS uses all available means to get fast, practical and actionable information to survivors.
EIS also helps channel vital data from the field back up into the aid response.
In addition to providing this service when a disaster strikes, EIS will provide training in communications with affected populations to humanitarian organisations, to help them meet the information needs of their communities better during a disaster.
EIS works in partnership with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and in close coordination with communications specialists in disaster response. We also aim to support governments and local media in getting critical information to people in times of crisis.
We are working closely with INSTEDD, UNICEF and others to develop innovative ways to use new technology in improving communications between disaster-affected populations and the humanitarian response.
Donations will go to the Thomson Reuters Foundation (a UK registered charity) and be used to support the Emergency Information Service (EIS).
These donations will be tax deductible for United Kingdom donors only. Donations are NOT tax deductible for any other donors.
