TrustLaw Connect was launched in June 2010 with the aim of spreading pro bono work globally, helping lawyers put their professional skills to work for non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and social entrepreneurs with limited means (as well as governments on a case-by-case basis).

At the Thomson Reuters Foundation we believe such organisations have the potential to address many of the world's environmental, humanitarian and social problems, but their effectiveness may be impeded by a lack of sufficient legal resources. TrustLaw Connect brings together outstanding legal teams to provide free legal advice for NGOs and social enterprises in any jurisdiction in the world.

Today we are a community of over 500 members, growing every day:

  • Some 200 law firms and in-house legal teams already work with us, giving us access to a pool of thousands of lawyers
  • Over 385 beneficiary NGOs and social enterprises, ranging from large international and small grassroots organisations all doing fantastic work around the world to benefit society
  • In excess of 250 teams of lawyers around the world have already responded to our members' calls for assistance

"As a charity, it's essential we channel the funds we raise towards the beneficiaries and spend the minimum amount on areas like legal costs. TrustLaw Connect really hit the jackpot for us when I was very quickly put in contact with the African lawyer of the year for 2008 and 2009 in Intellectual Property and was receiving fantastic advice in no time at all."
