NGOs
We support non-governmental organisations that undertake exceptional work in the field of social development in all corners of the world. Membership of TrustLaw Connect is open to NGOs that are in at least their third year of existence as a registered non-profit or charitable organisation, meaning that:
- profits are invested in the basic mission of the organisation rather than distributed to owners or directors
- private as opposed to being part of, or controlled by, the government
- self-governing, in that there is exclusive control over internal procedures
NGOs can be recommended by one of our referring partners or can apply directly by following the instructions in our Eligibility Quiz.
Social enterprises
At the Thomson Reuters Foundation, we understand a social entrepreneur to be someone who works creatively with a business-like, disciplined approach to solve social problems. We believe these entrepreneurs' innovative solutions can have a large scale impact on society.
We are also interested in working with entrepreneurs in the developing world whose ventures are early stage and designed to support economic growth. We consider membership for social entrepreneurs who come to us from three sources:
- Referrals: social entrepreneurs that are fellows or grantees of one of our referring organisations (Please click here for a complete list.)
- Awards: recipients of one of many highly regarded awards in the field
- Invitations: occasionally, the Foundation will approach specific organisations
The core mission of NGOs and social enterprises could include a wide variety of areas such as the arts, education, environment, good governance, human rights, humanitarian relief or international development.
