I have had one of my greatest experiences here in London, attending a Thomson Reuters Foundation course on Writing Business and Financial News.

Despite the fact that I have been a professional writer for The Egyptian Gazette, the Middle East's oldest English-language daily newspaper for over five years, just a week on the course has drawn my attention to the most fatal mistakes that can weaken a news story. Which is why I applied for the course in the first place.

The course has been incredibly informative, and I hope it will improve my news covering as a whole. Two former Thomson Reuters journalists – Roger Jeal and Richard Waddington – have given attendees invaluable tips to enrich their writing techniques.

Roger's sense of humor broke the ice on the first day of the course and Richard's professionalism set the rhythm of work for the week. "Don't harden your story,” from Roger, and "Tear and read," from Richard, are the most useful tips that I will always keep in mind.

Input by the ten colleagues was also really refreshing. Nishani Pigera from Sri Lanka seemed to add new ideas that really enriched the discussions.

Energetic journalists, Jenny and May Chan (unrelated) taught me about Hong Kong.

Thanks to Pema Tshoki, I know more about Bhutan.

It has been my pleasure to meet Evan Wasuka from Solomon Islands.

I love Russian people, more than two million Russian tourists visit Egypt annually, but it was only on this course in London, that I met Aleksanrda Surovtseva.

Before the course, I had two friends from Georgia. Thanks to Thomson Reuters Foundation I now count Nino Patsuria as the third.

It has been also my pleasure to make acquaintance with Vu Ngan Binh from Vietnam, Debesh Beedasy from Mauritius and Rafael Valdez from Ecuador.

From the bottom of my heart, I thank Thomson Reuters Foundation for this wonderful course.
