Roger Jeal - Course Trainer Thomson Reuters Foundation hands end of course certificate to May Chan - Hong Kong
The networking opportunities brought about the Thomson Reuters Foundation are just as invaluable as the knowledge and skills it imparts to the participants. I have learnt so much from my course mates, who come from all over the world including Latin America, Europe, Asia-Pacific, and the Middle East.
Throughout the course I have been able to refresh and improve my skills as a business writer with the help of our trainers, Roger Jeal and Richard Waddington. The incredibly useful rules of thumb that they provided such as, "read and tear" and "never start with negative", shall always remain useful in my career as a journalist.
Discussion with fellow course mates has also proven to be an invaluable experience. The things I take for granted in Hong Kong - like regulatory authorities, the presence of a strong stock market, and the free flow of information could be novel to some of the other economies.
Everything I learnt last week is making me reflect on the structure and functions of the Hong Kong market, as well as understand the significance of global events as I become aware of the differences of maturity in different markets.
I will take what I have learnt, and the network I have forged, back to South China Morning Post, and to Hong Kong. It's something that will stay with me for a long while, if not a life time.
