  1. Global Security Seminar: Reporting on terrorism and global security

    Thomson Reuters Foundation invites journalists to apply to take part in a major three-day seminar in Istanbul, Turkey from 12 – 14 November 2012. "Reporting on Terrorism and Global Security" will bring together security experts, authoritative commentators and journalists for a series of lively presentations and debates.

    The seminar will look critically at the role of the media and how journalists can avoid being exploited by terrorists to help them achieve their goals. Themes will include: fragile states; the Arab Spring and its impact on al Qaeda and Islamist political parties; the impact of turmoil in Libya and Syria on the security of Europe, Middle East and Africa; the impact of European economic turmoil on extremism; the risk of popular unrest in Russia and China; Nuclear proliferation and Iran; Pakistan’s challenges; cybersecurity and espionage; reporting in the age of social media and WikiLeaks; and anticipating security challenges of the future. Panels will be complemented by a practical workshop exercise and a newsmaker session.

Fear not!  Thomson Reuters Foundation and the Mediacentar Sarajevo bring you the chance to understand the basics of how money really DOES make the world go around.

    And while we’re explaining to you how it all works, we’ll also show you where to look to find those nasty little corruption stories that lurk hidden in the numbers. Join us for Business News and Tracking Down Corruption, 15-19 October in Sarajevo. No financial experience necessary, just a keen interest in learning about this exciting and fast-paced part of journalism.

  3. Multimedia Journalism

    This course teaches journalists methods for finding, developing and presenting stories using multimedia. Training is practical by nature, and is based around a combination of exercises and group discussions, drawing upon examples from all branches of multimedia. Sessions of the course include; photography, filming, storyboarding, video editing, and pitching multimedia stories as well as theoretical discussions on the importance and significance of multimedia journalism.

    The course is run by an experienced multimedia journalist with guest sessions from experts from Reuters Television and Reuters Pictures. 

  4. Making Television News

  5. Reportage économique et financier

    La Fondation Thomson Reuters a commencé en 2010, en collaboration avec l'Agence Norvégienne de Développement et Coopération (NORAD), une série de stages pour les journalistes africains dans le but de consolider leurs connaissances en matière de journalisme financier.

    En partenariat avec NORAD, la Fondation Thomson Reuters organise maintenant un cours de reportage économique et financière destiné aux journalistes africains francophones, du 27 au 31 août à Dakar.

    Apprendre par la pratique est un élément clé du programme, incluant en particulier des exercices pratiques et des  reportages dans les conditions du direct. Le cours attache une grande importance à l’amélioration de la couverture financière nationale et internationale par le biais de séances d'information détaillées, de conférences, et, le cas échéant, d’une visite reportage à une institution financière. Des discussions détaillées permettront aux journalistes d’approfondir différents sujets, notamment l'exploitation des ressources naturelles, la gouvernance économique, la fiscalité et la fuite des capitaux des pays en développement.

  6. Financial & Economic Reporting

    This course is designed to help journalists inAfricato strengthen their reporting on financial and economic topics by developing their understanding and skills. “Learning by doing” is a core part of the programme, which includes practical exercises and live reporting. The course also focuses on improving coverage of national and international financial issues through detailed briefings, presentations by guest speakers and, where appropriate, a reporting visit to a financial institution. In-depth discussions will explore ways of tackling subjects such as resource exploitation, economic governance and capital flight from developing countries.

  7. Rural Poverty Reporting

    In line with IFAD’s commitment to amplify the debate on rising food prices and how to achieve global food security, this training workshop will allow journalists in countries where IFAD operates, to attend the Rio +20 conference to enhance their skills required to cover the issues facing the rural people and their communities and bring these to the attention of policy and decision makers, both nationally and regionally.  At the Rio+20 Conference, world leaders, along with thousands of participants from governments, the private sector, NGOs and other groups, will come together to shape how they can reduce poverty, advance social equity and ensure environmental protection on an ever more crowded planet to get to the future we want.  The Rio+20 Conference It is envisaged as a Conference at the highest possible level, including Heads of State and Government or other representatives. The Conference will result in a focused political document.  This is a joint workshop organised with IPS.

  8. Writing and Reporting News

    The main focus of the course is the actual writing and reporting of news, as practiced by Reuters and other global agencies. Practical exercises form the core of the programme, with an emphasis on improving basic reporting and writing skills including accuracy, impartiality, speed, clarity and structure. The course will help journalists recognise their good habits and provide them the time and space to work on their weak points, within a mentored framework. 

    This is a residential course that will take place over five days in a conference centre near Dhaka.

  9. Photojournalism

    This workshop, led by senior Reuters news photographers, shows how to go about capturing the image that graphically illustrates the story, without compromising integrity. Sessions combine discussions and dissection of examples with practical photo-shoots and editing exercises.

  10. Elections Reporting

    An intensely practical course, backed by full explanation of the democratic process and the requirement for fair, balanced and accurate reporting. It looks at advance planning, campaign coverage, election night reporting and the handling of results and the aftermath of elections. Trainees are helped in drawing up a coverage plan so that they address all the main issues and report fairly on all contenders.
