Guerrilla-turned-peacemaker Abdullah Anas, an influential voice among north African Islamists, spoke to TrustMedia at East London Mosque in Whitechapel as part of "Reporting on International Security and Terrorism", a Thomson Reuters Foundation seminar. Anas, who runs the UK-based Taruf conflict-resolution consultancy, became known for organising Arab volunteers into the Afghan resistance to Soviet occupation in the 1980s. He worked with Palestinian Islamic scholar Abdullah Azzam, and the then little known activist Osama bin laden.
