Job Purpose In the UK there are significant plans for lockdown easing and the promise of removal of Coronavirus legal restrictions by 21st June; SCUK teams are wanting to pick up where they left off in terms of activities that will help us to achieve our ambitious aims for children.

 

To support them in their work, as Staff Health Adviser, you will process and advise on the COVID-19 guidance across the four UK nations and countries where our staff may be travelling, assess how the guidance relates to different aspects of our work, and communicating this information in a proactive way to help SCUK as we carry out activities whilst keeping our people as safe as reasonably possible and reducing the risk of COVID-19 transmission.

 

You will also advise, support and assess SCUK employees in relation to Staff Health, make relevant referrals to external service providers in respect of staff health and welfare support and provide a service to SCUK in support of SCUK’s effectiveness and in accordance with all relevant staff health /HR/Public Health England (PHE) policies, service standards, guidelines and statutory requirements. You will also be expected to conduct complex case management for staff health including, maintaining an independent perspective and liaising with colleagues across the organisation to achieve the most suitable solution for each case.

 

This role is offered as a 6 month fixed term contract, working with our Senior Staff Health Advisor. This is a fantastic opportunity to support a wide variety of SCUK teams, with the ultimate goal of helping SCUK to keep our people and those they come into contact with, as safe as possible during a global pandemic.

 

Other key accountabilities:

 

Travel Health Policy/Guidance

  • SCUK Staff travel internationally to respond to humanitarian needs, provide technical support to programmes and SCI Country Offices. Assist the development of a comprehensive policy for all staff who travel internationally. To ensure colleagues are medically fit to travel (including screening for COVID-19 related risks), aware of the travel related risks to their travel destination, are protected through vaccines, medications and behaviours and know how to access additional support when required.

 

Assessing Health risks in SCUK activities

  • Further develop the work on staff health related risks within SCUK and activities. To address priority areas and gather more information on the risk impacting the different SCUK Teams in their activities. Provide coordinated support to SCUK Teams to assess, identify and address health risks, with particular focus on impact of the Coronavirus Pandemic across the four UK Nations.

 

Develop practical tools to support Teams

  • Develop tools to support teams with complex COVID-19 requirements across the organisation. With greater resource, more in-depth/researched support can be offered or led by Staff Health in collaboration with relevant teams. Longer term procedures will be required as COVID-19 will evolve further in the next 12 months.

Alignment with Save the Children International (SCI)

  • Engagement with SCI to work on alignment in areas of travel health and medevac and development of regular contacts with relevant SCI Staff. Ensuring that key SCI documents are reviewed and applied to SCUK and colleagues aware of the SCI requirements for international travel.

Medevac

  • Contribute to development of SCUK Medevac policy aligned with SCI Policy, working with relevant colleagues in SCUK, such as Insurance and Safety & Security. Contribute to developing appropriate staff health incident management policy and test the system.

Business as Usual

  • There are considerable ongoing work/requests for staff health, including – review risk assessments, ad hoc advice for teams and individuals, COVID-19 case reporting to Public Health bodies for all workplaces and activities.

 

Person Specification

 

Qualifications:

 

Essential: Nurse or Medical doctor, registered with the relevant UK health professional body

Desirable: Holds a formal qualification relating specifically to Occupational or Global/Public Health.

 

Skills:

 

Essential:

  • Previous knowledge and experience working in international development, global/public health or occupational health or a related discipline.
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills with experience of working on cross organisational initiatives and working in liaison and coordination with colleagues across diverse disciplines and teams ideally in a complex, matrix organisation and whilst working remotely.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with a wide range of key stakeholders, including at senior levels, within the organisation and external to it, effectively influencing outcomes in areas where the roles have limited or no direct authority.
  • Excellent written and spoken English communication and reporting skills.
  • An efficient self-starter with an ability to work alone (remotely) and as part of a team, prioritise tasks, and deliver against deadlines.
  • Absorb information and analyse implications rapidly, provide sound advice in highly pressurised situations.
  • Experience of providing remote technical support, capacity building, skilled in facilitating the learning of other and supporting training initiatives.
  • Strong planning, organization, problem-solving, engaging, and influencing skills.
  • Actively support team members and colleagues and facilitate their engagement and compliance with policies and procedures.
  • Approachable, understanding and compassionate manner.
  • Ability to embed equality, diversity and inclusion in all they do.

 

 

Desirable:

  • Experience of developing policies, procedures, standards and guidelines, and

preparing/reviewing technical documents.

  • Multi-country experience of working in the INGO sector, within complex/large scale

country programmes and/or in emergency response/humanitarian settings.

  • Experience of medical/clinical incident reporting and health risk management.
