The Gender & Protection Advisor is responsible for coordinating the implementation of the gender/protection component of the Fortifying Equality and Economic Diversity for resilience (FEED II) programmes, supporting all the consortium members in relation to FEED II gender work. S/he actively contributes to define strategies advancing gender work across the consortia through research, partnership, alliance building and advocacy initiatives. S/he provides leadership in cross-learning and knowledge generation for the FEED II consortia. The position supports the building of systems, structures, capacity of staff and partners to put women’s rights at the heart of FEED II implementation.

The Gender & Protection Advisor ensures gender based violence (GBV) mainstreaming and integration in the implementation, monitoring and evaluation of FEED II. S/he further contributes to the quality of GBV prevention and mitigation programming in other sectors (FSL and Nutrition) within the FEED II programme. S/he ensures case management services are in place and that the GBV Information Management System (GBV) is used ethically; and that data entry, storage and sharing are according to the prescribed international standards and principles. S/he builds the capacity of the program staff delivering GBV prevention, mitigation and response services in line with international and consortia-accepted standards.

Responsibilities:

• Technical leadership, strategic planning and capacity building
• External relations and partnerships
• Represent CARE and CARE’s focus on women and girls in the FEED PMU and consortium
• Represent the FEED consortium and CARE by regularly participating at the relevant sector fora, conferences, and high-level meetings and the protection humanitarian cluster
• Facilitate FEED partners’ staff representation and participation in national, regional and international networks on gender
• Seek support and technical assistance from relevant technical units at CARE USA or other CARE international partners, as needed

Qualifications:

• Master’s Degree in Gender Studies, Social Work, International Relations, Conflict Transformation, Development Studies, or related discipline or a bachelor’s degree with sufficient experience in gender and protection programming in conflict settings
• A minimum of 5 to 10 years’ experience in gender GBVIE, and protection programming
• D emonstrated expertise in GBVIE Case Management with strong adherence to GBV Core Guiding principles and international standards for managing GBVIE programs
• Protection and GBV programming in Emergency skills
• Gender transformative programming skills
• Resource mobilization/fundraising skills
