Do you want to play a key role in an organisation which stands up for children? Join us as Account Manager to lead the management of our largest and most strategic institutional partnerships. This position will have an important role in strengthening existing UN partnerships and developing new strategic initiatives, linking with others among our most important institutional partners. 

The Partnership Development team is at the heart of Save the Children's future. We support Save the Children's ambitious vision for 2030 to ensure every last child grows up healthy, educated and protected. We aim to deliver influence, income and reputational value to support organisational priorities as well as securing wider transformational value through strategic long-term partnerships on a national and global scale.

We are looking for a motivated Account Manager with strong experience with the UN. This is an exciting opportunity to manage unique strategic partnerships, raise funds for Save the Children and deliver wider value for our organisation and partners.

You will be responsible for implementing, coordinating and managing partnership strategies for UN Agency that Save the Children works with, leveraging resources to support the achievement of partnership goals, monitoring progress and evaluating benefits. You will join an ambitious team that is working to achieve a significant impact for children's lives across the globe.

 Reporting into the UN Partnership Manager, this exciting opportunity will see you:

  • Leading on the implementation of SCUK’s Global Partnership Strategy with the UN to nurture effective partnerships
  • Supporting the organisation to continually build its understanding of UN partners and any evolving trends that may impact the relationship 
  • Exploring new avenues of collaboration with UN agencies, as well as new funding modalities, to ensure SCUK fulfils its income potential as a return on their investment in these partnerships
  • Representing Save the Children with relevant contacts and providing strong support to colleagues in their external engagement at country, regional and HQ levels 
  • Securing support and buy-in of critical stakeholders from across the organisation (Business Development and Programme Management teams, Humanitarian Department, technical experts, Donor Compliance, Advocacy, Media and Communications teams) to contribute to our engagement with UN partners 
  • Supporting the development and delivery of donor-specific capacity building plans 
  • Working closely with the Donor Compliance team to identify risks, mitigating measures and setting adequate monitoring mechanisms to support wider award management processes. 
  • Developing common standard approaches to quality and compliance across the account. Ensuring partner regulations and expectations are well understood among parties involved.  
  • Engaging with account members, where necessary, and SCI in generating learning and best practices. 

The ideal candidate knows the sector and, specifically, the UN extremely well, has an innate curiosity and mental flexibility that allows them to make links and connections rapidly to make the most of new opportunities. 

They have a strong network in the sector and will be able to quickly establish their own network within Save the Children - both at SCUK and throughout the movement - and know when to bring in which stakeholder to make sure we're making the most of our opportunities. They will be attentive to detail and have excellent analytical skills, knowing how to use Excel to cut and analyse data and be able to present data visually in an engaging way to persuade stakeholders at all levels. 

They will have excellent written and oral communication skills and will be able to manage our wealth of donor-specific knowledge and information well, ensuring a variety of channels to reach our key stakeholder groups (country offices, Members, SCI Centre, Regional Offices) and will combine these with their personal and networking skills to establish themselves as a key focal point for our UN accounts. 

They will be able to work independently and flexibly, able to re-prioritise workload when urgent things come in but still be able to achieve longer-term objectives.

In addition, you will have:

  • Strategic skills in partnership management and market assessment in relation to overall positioning with partners. 
  • Knowledge of and experience working directly with UN agencies, in particular, their structure and operations 
  • Experience of, interest in and knowledge of current thinking and future trends in the sector 
  • Thorough understanding of international development issues.  
  • Proven experience of providing creative and innovative approaches to developing new initiatives that have an impact on partnerships 
  • Strong leadership behaviours, including external orientation, situational agility, delivery of results, strategic vision and purpose, entrepreneurial approach, negotiating & influencing.  
  • Experience in relationship management, working with institutional donors, trusts and foundations, or equally demanding partners.  
  • Experience of undertaking industry trend and donor specific research, finding relevant, reliable, and up to date information quickly. 
  • Strong understanding of project design, quality programming and effective delivery.
  • Experience of influencing and delivering results cross-organisationally within a large complex global organisation.
