Country Director, Lebanon

The total salary package for this position is £61,746 GBP per annum (approx. ${esc.dollar}{esc.dollar}{esc.dollar}{esc.dollar}76,054 USD) including all allowances.

About MAG:
MAG supports the development of countries emerging from conflict by finding and destroying the explosive remnants of war, so that communities can raise their families and pursue their livelihoods in a safe and secure environment, free from fear of death or injury. MAG shared the 1997 Nobel Peace Prize as a founding member of the International Campaign to Ban Landmines for our work to ban landmines. Our vision is a safe and secure future for men, women and children affected by armed violence and conflict.

About the Lebanon programme:
MAG has been operational in Lebanon since 2000, conducting impact assessment surveys, delivering Mine Risk Education and clearing landmines, cluster munitions and other unexploded ordnance. Lebanon has an extensive legacy of conflict, and MAG is addressing the contamination left behind across predominantly southern and north-eastern areas of the country. The crisis in neighbouring Syria and movement of populations into Lebanon has made this work only more vital, and MAG continues to support both Lebanese and Syrian communities. Since 2006, MAG Lebanon has cleared more than 17 million square meters of contaminated land and removed more than 35,000 dangerous weapons, benefitting over 1.6 million people.

About the role:
MAG is recruiting a Country Director to lead our Lebanon programme. The head office is based in Nabatieh but we are flexible with the location of the post-holder as long as it is in a commutable distance. Reporting to MAG’s Regional Director based in Amman, the Country Director will be responsible for the effective integration of strategic, programmatic and operational management and the development of new business, in compliance with contractual obligations and MAG’s mission and mandate. You will have a wide variety of strategic responsibilities including contract management, donor liaison, business development, people management, security management, capacity building and risk management. This senior role will provide you with the opportunity to use your people management skills, leading a diverse team of international and national staff operating across a geographically varied environment. You will also have the opportunity to use your skills in business development and stakeholder management, to take a leading role in donor development, identifying funding opportunities in a demanding donor environment, and working with a wide range of national and international actors.

About you:
As well as demonstrable skills in people, project and financial management, you will need previous experience working overseas in senior management roles and managing and leading large scale projects and/or programmes, from project design through to contract delivery. You will have demonstrable experience of working in complex political environments that require tact, sensitivity and relationship-building skills. Previous experience in the mine action sector is highly desirable, however we welcome applications from experienced managers from any development sector.

Please note that as part of MAG's commitment to safeguarding, this post is subject to background checks before an offer of employment is confirmed.

For the further information on the role, the application form and details of how to apply, please visit the MAG website as soon as possible. Applications will be reviewed on an ongoing basis, and the advert will be taken down once an appointment is made. If you have not heard back from us within 3 weeks of applying, it means that your application has not been successful.
