Join us as Humanitarian Health Advisor – Epidemic Preparedness and Response, supporting Regional Offices, SCI Country Offices and Field Humanitarian Programmes to develop and implement disease preparedness and control measures for epidemic and pandemic prone diseases, including COVID-19.

As Humanitarian Health Adviser - Epidemic Preparedness and Response you will play a key role in developing strong public health intelligence capacity, engaging stakeholders across the SC Movement and working towards a shared work plan that reflects strategic priorities of the SC Humanitarian Technical Working Group (HTWG) for health. You will also provide more generalist humanitarian health support as part of surge capacity for response to emergencies globally. Other key responsibilities of the role include:
• Supporting country programmes to implement effective ongoing surveillance, including for COVID-19
• Providing technical support, at HQ level, to the humanitarian health lead and other key staff across members in the response to disease outbreaks
• Carrying out short field assignments in order to support country programmes in their response to outbreaks and ensure appropriate range of disease control strategies at primary and community level in collaboration with other technical sectors
• Working closely with the three-year OFDA funded READY project team (2019-21), a global consortium led by SCUS, in their priority countries to define and realise their READY indicators and surveillance objectives, and then ensure synergies between READY recommendations and our existing data systems.
To be successful you will have a background in infectious disease prevention and control. You will also have experience in data management, data collection, surveys or outbreak investigations and the ability to design and implement surveillance and other data collection systems for monitoring epidemics. An MSc in epidemiology, or public health and/or equivalent field experience is essential as is:
• Experience with mobile data collection, visualisation software and DHIS 2
• Proven practical skills with Epi-info, Excel, STATA or SPSS, Word, Powerpoint
• Progressive and solid experience on the field in the implementation and management of humanitarian health programmes
• Understanding of how to conduct and analyse a vaccination coverage survey
• The ability to travel with short notice up to 50% of the time (when the current travel restrictions lift).
