The Role

Based in ARC Sudan Country office (Khartoum), this position is full time through December 31, 2019.   You will lead the start-up and implementation of the UNHCR funded six month project titled, “Livelihoods support for South Sudan Refugees and Host Communities in East and South Darfur” while simultaneously evaluating the need for livelihoods support in the region and identifying opportunities for ARC Sudan to develop market aware programming to increase self-reliance and resilience of vulnerable populations.


You’ll be guided by the Country Program Manager and work in collaboration with the Livelihoods and Food Security Coordinator to understand ARC Sudan’s strengths and weaknesses, aspirations and resources to develop a strategy document for expanding livelihoods support in for refugees, IDPs and host communities in Sudan.  


Specific Activities

Project Start-up and Management:

In collaboration with the LFS Coordinator, oversee the start-up of the UNHCR funded project, “Livelihoods support for South Sudan Refugees and Host Communities in East and South Darfur” and ensure ARC meets contractual obligations to the donor as well as upholding our promise the community. 

  • Hire program staff with support of ARC HR team in Sudan
  • Lead a Grant Opening Meeting with project staff to go over work plan, spending plan, procurement plan, HR plan, budget etc.
  • Ensure that the project implementation is on time and within the planned budget
  • Initiate beneficiary feedback mechanisms for the project to ensure community satisfaction with the project and adapt project activities as necessary to meet needs of beneficiaries.
  • Coordinate with ARC existing and new partners (including private sector actors like DAL and Kickstart) to implement project activities.
  • Evaluate the project and make recommendations for expansion of the project into a 4-year project to be presented to UNHCR for approval.
  • Coordinate with all sector coordinators (WASH, Health, Nutrition, Protection, Shelter) to ensure wherever possible to integrate services.

 New Business and Development:

  • Attend livelihoods / food security sectors/cluster meetings on behalf of ARC, build a strong presence for the organization
  • Cultivate relationships with new donors and private sector, anddevelop concept notes for strategic opportunities.

  • Develop a 4-year ARC proposal based on the initial 6-month livelihoods intervention to be presented to UNHCR for consideration
  • Initiate and lead assessments as needed to inform program design and a strategic plan for ARC livelihoods program in Sudan.
