This is an opportunity provided by the Exploring the Profit and Loss of Biodiversity Destruction programme: Find out more
Â
Are you working for a Civil Society Organisation or NGO working on Biodiversity in Indonesia and/or Malaysia? Â
Â
Thomson Reuters Foundation’s dual track bootcamp offers an excellent opportunity for journalists and CSOs to collaborate towards the mitigation of the loss of biodiversity in their countries, and globally. Led by world-class trainers and experts, the bootcamp will be conducted over three consecutive days using Zoom and other interactive online tools to connect participants in engaging real-time video seminars.Â
Failure to deal with growing economic physical and social risks around biodiversity loss will inevitably result in a more uncertain, perilous, and costly future. The main challenge is to demonstrate that there is a real opportunity for investors and policymakers to deliver more environmentally sustainable, socially just and resilient economies post-COVID-19, effectively meeting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), climate change targets (CoP 26) and Environmental, Social, Governance disclosures (ESG). Journalists, NGOs, and Civil society organisations (CSOs) have to work together to raise awareness through high-quality and reliable information that shape public discourse and decision-makers. Â
The dual-track programme aims to strengthen trust between journalists and NGOs/CSOs by upskilling journalists to better report on the topic and enhancing CSOs’ communications to effectively communicate their message to the media. The first two days, journalists and CSOs will be trained separately, and on the third day, the whole group will join for networking and collaborative exercises.Â
The media training element of this programme aims to help civil society organisations to better communicate key messages to their target audiences and the media, with a view to contributing to higher-quality communications and dialogue on biodiversity issues. Â
Â
At the end of the programme, you will be able to:Â
- Define and segmenting audiences for CSO communicationsÂ
- Develop clear, accessible key messages for target audiencesÂ
- Map a communications campaignÂ
- Understand the use of digital marketing and multimedia skills training toolsÂ
- Understand the news cycle and how journalists workÂ
- Communicate with the media via day-to-day press relations and crisis managementÂ
- Prepare a spokesperson for interviews and presentationsÂ
- Practice interview skillsÂ
- Interact with journalists using a ‘solutions journalism’ perspectiveÂ
*The programme contents may be modified to best respond to the learning needs of the participants. Â
