Every year at the TrustLaw Awards ceremony we gather to recognize the remarkable pro bono projects undertaken by legal teams with NGOs and social enterprises around the world. Join us on 8 June 2022 to celebrate our pro bono community.

The annual TrustLaw Awards celebrated remarkable pro bono projects undertaken by legal teams with NGOs and social enterprises around the world.

We awarded four outstanding pro bono projects, in addition to the International law firm, Regional law firm, In-house legal team, and the esteemed Lawyer of the Year award.

This Award recognises an outstanding legal research project that has led to demonstrable change and significant outcomes.

  • Combatting sexual harassment at the Workplace

    Through TrustLaw, the Red Dot Foundation received legal assistance from Latham & Watkins to draft a comparative research report on gender neutral laws to prevent sexual harassment at the workplace

    Through TrustLaw, CPJ received legal assistance from Allen & Overy to draft a ‘Know Your Rights’ Guide for journalists covering protests in the US

  • Special Drawing Rights: Building back more equitably

    Through TrustLaw, ONE received legal assistance from Shearman & Sterling, Linklaters, Milbank, Chiomenti, Morrison and Foerster to draft a research memorandum on Special Drawing Rights.

Collaboration Award

This Award showcases highly effective working relationships between pro bono providers and recipients that exemplify the power and best practices of pro bono.

  • Online sexual exploitation and digital rights

    Through TrustLaw, Equality Now received legal assistance from Herbert Smith Freehills, Baker Botts, Dentons, Shearman & Sterling LLP, Aluko & Oyebode, Oduk-Ongati Advocates, Thomson Reuters who worked together to produce a research report on online sexual exploitation and digital rights.

  • Legal reform of anti-FGM/C laws in Nigeria

    Through TrustLaw, HACEY Health Initiative received legal assistance from Udo Udoma & Belo-Osagie, Bowmans, Cliffe Dekker Hofmeyr (Kieti Law LLP) who worked together to draft a comparative research memorandum on anti-FGM/C laws in states of Nigeria.

  • Guide for Venezuelan migrants in the Americas

    Through TrustLaw, Un Mundo Sin Mordaza received legal assistance from Robalino Abogados, Foley Hoag, Mattos Filho, Veiga Filho, Marrey Jr. e Quiroga Advogados, Morales & Besa, Philippi Prietocarrioza Ferrero DU & Uría, and Richards, Cardinal, Tützer, Zabala & Zaefferer who worked together to produce a research report on migration and asylum laws.

Powered by Pro Bono Award

This Award recognises an NGO or social enterprise that has used pro bono legal advice to scale up their operations, improve the delivery of their social mission or pivot their activities to make a greater impact.

  • Delivering mental health care to war veterans and their families

    Through TrustLaw, the True North Society – an NGO based in Kenya - received advisory legal support on projects between 2020-21 from Bowmans and MMTK Law.

  • Providing credible standards for the social enterprise sector

    Through TrustLaw, Social Enterprise Mark – a social enterprise based in the UK - received advisory legal assistance on projects between 2020-21 from Latham & Watkins, Maples Group, Morrison and Foerster, Ropes & Gray.

  • Changing the way people breathe clean air

    Through TrustLaw, Smart Air - a social enterprise based in China - received advisory legal assistance on projects between 2020-21 from Gibson Dunn, White & Case, Latham & Watkins, DLA Piper, Baker Botts, Weerawong, Chinnavat & Partners Ltd, SyCip Salazar Hernandez & Gatmaitan.

Covid-19 Response Award

This Award highlights a project that was undertaken in response to the Covid-19 pandemic by a pro bono provider, and which enabled the client to better meet the needs of their beneficiaries.

  • Empowering houseworkers in Mexico

    Through TrustLaw, Parvada received legal assistance from Hogan Lovells to draft a labour rights training manual summarising houseworker’s rights. This research was in response to houseworkers at risk of their rights being infringed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

  • Supporting survivors to escape domestic abuse

    Through TrustLaw, Women’s Aid received legal assistance from Milbank to formalise the “Rail to Refuge” scheme, a scheme which assists victims of domestic abuse to reach a safe refuge, an issue which was heightened during the Covid-19 pandemic.

  • Supporting the media ecosystem in Lebanon

    Through TrustLaw, Samir Kassir Foundation received advisory legal assistance from Latham & Watkins to set up a non-profit in France. The organisation required this advice in response to the Lebanese economy crisis and Covid-19 pandemic.
