The position

We are seeking an exceptional leader with proven experience managing a diverse team and deep knowledge of the news industry to help take our journalism and media programmes to the next level.

 

This is an exciting opportunity that involves a mix of talent management, business development and journalistic insight. It’s a chance to play a leading role in the Foundation’s work to promote excellence in journalism worldwide, to make societies more open, tolerant and prosperous. The successful candidate will be able to make a real difference as part of a dynamic team devoted to putting the Thomson Reuters Trust Principles of independence and impartiality at the heart of media development.

You will work with the Director to help drive the Foundation’s journalism training activities and support our global programmes for independent news. You will also take the lead in developing our commercial services including media training, writing and communications courses and other as yet untapped opportunities. Money raised from these services goes to support the Foundation’s philanthropic work.

In addition, you will work with the Director and Content Manager to streamline our knowledge management systems and make sure our web presence is world class.

You will lead by example and combine superb people management skills with diplomacy as you handle relationships across different parts of the Foundation. You will also be comfortable representing the Foundation internally and externally while building relationships with clients and partners.

The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of how newsrooms work and be on top of the latest trends in international media development. Fluency in English is essential and other languages are a strong plus. You will be a strong writer and a confident speaker.

 

Key duties include:

  • Deputising for the Director across all operational activities when Director is out of the office
  • Putting processes in place for smooth operations and effective team management with a view to removing silos and maximizing overall effectiveness
  • Assigning Project Coordinators tasks and responsibilities to support Project Managers as needed in line with team strategy
  • Supervising Corporate Training Manager and driving expansion of commercial services
  • Building relationships with existing and potential clients of commercial services including corporations, NGOs, intergovernmental agencies and governments
  • Supervising Content Manager and helping drive content strategy
  • Keeping track of grant and tender opportunities and helping write proposals as needed
  • Keeping abreast of the latest thinking on impact measurement and ensuring that metrics capture progress while informing strategy
  • Attending, as needed, meetings with other parts of the Foundation
