The role:                                               To have a strategic overview of the value chain components of the country and work with managers, field teams and partners to build capacity and confidence to deliver results in-line with Oxfam development approaches and emphasis on women economic leadership (WEL). The position holder will also facilitate chain development among program stakeholders, building relationships and networking to improve market access and influence of small holder farmers, building capacity of key actors and managing information flow in the value chains.

DIMENSIONS

 

  • Cooperate with Oxfam program teams to agree on strategic approaches to chain development
  • Work with field team and partners to develop chain development workplans
  • Frequent and extended field visits to support partners and field teams in the implementation of chain development interventions
  • Capacity building and integration of women economic leadership in all livelihood and value chain programs
  • Build strong relationship through networking with partners and various stakeholders
  • Analyze and facilitate information flow in the value chain
  • Advise program teams and new program design on strategies for value chain development

 

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Support the capacity development of staff and partners to implement their work in-line with Oxfam approaches to women economic leadership, markets systems and small enterprise development with a view of reducing risk and vulnerability reduction and generating evidence for policy advocacy.
  • Guide programme teams on the delivery of mechanisms that will ensure effective implementation of chain development interventions
  • Work directly with various national stakeholders such as the chamber of commerce and traders associations to build their capacity and understanding of inclusive business models
  • Facilitate the preparation, delivery and organization of key chain development events – including workshops, product fairs, stakeholder meetings and study tours
  • Provide technical leadership for the development of field level programme activities and contribute technically to development of value chain proposals.
  • Provide technical support to all programmes to strengthen livelihood, marketing and value chain components
  • Actively seek ways to facilitate the engagement of key private sector actors (MBCA/MRIA/UMFCCI) in the development of the key market systems and broker relationships that benefit targeted fishers and farmers and generate case examples of working with the private sector.
  • Support the teams to report on chain development activities, document lessons learned and propose adjustments to program design

 

 

SKILLS AND COMPETENCE:

 

Essential:

 

  • Extensive knowledge and experience of livelihoods and/or rural development, and/or a degree in agriculture, natural resource management, small business development or similar
  • Experience of development, business, marketing and private sector engagement in professional work, with a capacity to make decisions based on experience.
  • A minimum of five years relevant work experience, of which a substantial part should involve recent livelihoods, business and marketing work
  • Proven skill in conceptual development and in expressing such concepts/ideas in writing;
  • Proven practical experience in the following:
    • Business and marketing
    • Multi stakeholder engagement
    • Livelihoods development
    • Agriculture
  • Proven experience of field based training.
  • A sound understanding of the importance of gender empowerment and leadership in development work.
  • Diplomacy and good interpersonal skills
  • Willingness to travel extensively and for prolonged periods to the field (Rakhine, Delta, Dry Zone)
  • Good written and spoken English.
