You are an expert in news and current affairs with exceptional knowledge of the operational needs across print, broadcast and digital media. Then look no further than this Head of News position with ActionAid UK.

 

As Head of News in the UK you will report to the UK Director of Communications, leading a small team of press officers to develop and implement creative and innovative multi-channel media strategies. You will manage day-to-day operations to maximise news coverage across a range of issues aligned to our international programme, as well as leading media advocacy in the UK. Experienced at reliably interpreting policy and working in a pressured environment, you will advise on target audiences, key messages and media channels. You will also be expected to engage relevant news journalists and commentators by developing a network of personal contacts. You will identify and provide training for key spokespeople in the UK and across our international federation. You will also manage monitoring and evaluation processes to ensure we maximise effectiveness.

 

Your senior level management expertise has been gained in an operational role in news/current affairs and will be complemented by a good understanding of print, broadcast and digital media. You must have an extremely strong news sense coupled with political acumen. This will be complemented by sound knowledge of areas relevant to our mission, such as international relations, human rights, international development and social change. Digitally savvy, you have developed effective and integrated media strategies across all media, as well as commissioned/developed effective multi-media assets as part of a campaign/strategy. Experienced at generating insight to shape activities, you must also have strong communication, leadership and organisational skills.
