KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:

Programme Development:

Develop strategy, scope and range of the Education and Protection programme for Save the Children in NGCA Ukraine including how best to maximise results through partnering with local Department of Education and Social Services.

  • Support the area Coordinator in Programme to ensure timely delivery of programme activities, including monitoring against log frames, individual performance management work plans, identifying programme supplies needs and coordinating with the logistics team to put in place a practical phased procurement plan.
  • Ensure the participation of children and communities, particularly those most vulnerable or atrisk, in all stages of the programme cycle, as safe and appropriate.
  • Assist in training child protection staff and volunteers, and staff from key partner organisations.
  • Ensure that education and child protection interventions are informed by and integrated with other core sectors, including and ensuring that issues for child protection are raised and addressed.
  • Ensure ethical sensitivity and principles of Do No Harm are maintained in the implementation of child protection programme(s).

Monitoring, Evaluation and Reporting

  • Lead on Education and child protection assessments as required, in coordination with the Education and Child Protection Working Groups (Ed-CPWG) and/or other external agencies, ensuring assessment findings are documented and that all assessments include a disaggregated analysis of children's needs.
  • Put in place accountability activities for child protection in Education programming, ensuring that feedback from children, communities, and all other relevant stakeholders is considered in programme design.
  • Prepare timely programme and donor reports on child protection project activities in compliance with internal Save the Children requirements and any relevant external donor requirements.

Fundraising and Advocacy

  • Working closely with senior staff, support fundraising for education and child protection, including development of high quality concept notes and proposals.
  • Ensure that Save the Children's work is coordinated with efforts of other agencies and Government, and take a leadership role within Interagency Coordination forums, ensuring the specific needs of children are being addressed. This may involve taking the lead in the Child Protection Working Group and/or sub-groups.

Capacity Building

  • Define the human resource needs for the combined Education -Protection team in NGCA Ukraine, and recruit staff as appropriate.
  • Identify learning and training opportunities for Save the Children staff and partners and support and build the capacity of less experienced staff.
  • Ensure that capacity building is a scheduled and resourced part of personal objectives and progress monitoring of all related staff
  • Organise and deliver regular on the job training and mentoring, to staff, partners, local authorities and community members.

Coordination

  • Represent Save the Children and take a proactive role in the Education and Child Protection working group and take a leading role in strengthening the child protection system.
  • Build and maintain relationships with relevant government departments, UN agencies, NGOs and community based organisations.

General

  • Comply with Save the Children policies and practice with respect to child protection, code of conduct, health and safety, equal opportunities and other relevant policies and procedures.
  • Perform such other responsibilities as agreed with your line management.
