CARE International is one of the world’s leading aid agencies. We fight poverty and injustice in 84 of the poorest countries around the world. Our development programmes tackle the underlying causes of poverty and strengthen the capacity of poor communities to help themselves. We deliver relief in emergencies and help survivors rebuild their lives. We combine global experience with local expertise and last year we helped 83 million of the world’s poorest people.

We are currently recruiting a governance specialist for a high profile three to five year UK Department for International Development (DFID) project. CARE is a partner in a civil society consortium which will ensure the commitments made at the 2012 London Summit on Family Planning (FP) are met at the national and sub national level in nine countries. The aim is to ensure that FP2020 commitments are fulfilled; that progress toward the FP2020 aim is accelerated; and that empowered citizens’ hold governments and service providers to account for ensuring full, free and informed, rights-based FP for all, as part of a comprehensive approach to realising health rights.

CARE is looking to hire a Global Social Accountability Advisor with significant experience to provide technical leadership on developing tailored accountability packages and strengthen short-route accountability mechanisms to accelerate FP fulfilment. The position would be providing technical leadership and oversight of social accountability interventions in approximately 5 selected programme countries in the afore-mentioned sub-regions. Ideally, the role will be based in one of the focus countries with regular travel to other programme target countries.

The position is subject to the consortium being awarded the contract by DFID, and donor approval of the candidate.
