The role
The post holder will provide project cycle management support, capacity building, and coaching for project management staff of Save the Children’s field programs in Myanmar. Focusing on strengthening management teams and improving capacities of managers to build capacity of their own staff, this role is meant to improve the overall performance of our program management.

This position is designed to provide management support and capacity building to project management staff based both in the field and Yangon. In particular, the post holder will work with Project Managers, Heads of Field Offices, and Heads of Regional Offices to ensure they and their teams understand and apply the principles of project cycle management. The focus will be on building individual management capacities, supporting the creation of productive management teams, and coaching managers to prioritize tasks, plan appropriately, and lead high performing field teams. Through improving management skills, the overall objective is to improve the implementation of programs in the field and bring more benefits to children. The post holder will be expected to coordinate with other management initiatives underway across the Country Office, including those of the Human Resources Dept. Responsibilities will include some training, but will largely center around individual coaching and working in small management groups to improve coordination and productivity.


Qualifications and experience

  • Post-graduate university degree in a related field
  • A minimum of 7 years of management and leadership experience in a field context, preferably with an INGO.
  • Ability to work well in a team.
  • Experience training staff; demonstrated experience building capacity through coaching, mentoring, and through creative management support approaches.
  • Experience working in a matrix management environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in the application project cycle management to international development programs
  • Experience and demonstrated strong knowledge of effective financial and budgetary control.
  • Ability to analyze information critically, evaluate options and to think and plan strategically.
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation and communication and presentation skills (in English).
  • Ability and willingness to travel to remote area as assigned
  • Experience working in Myanmar preferred
  • Strong understanding of international aid and development and donor requirements.
  • Demonstrated skills, experience, and knowledge of: community development; working with children and on children’s issues; and working in partnership with other organizations.
  • Commitment to and understanding of Save the Children’s aims, values and principles.
