Salary: £26,364 - £35,656 per annum net

 

Contract Type: Fixed term for 3 months

 

Hours: Full time - 40 hours

 

Location: Yemen (when re-entry is authorised)

 

 

The Protection Coordinator role involves, among other things, providing  specialist protection advice, developing a comprehensive protection analysis, implementing protection activities including managing staff and  capacity building of teams and partners, in addition to representing Oxfam with key stakeholders and supporting advocacy and campaigning on protection issues.  

 

To do this work effectively post holder requires extensive involvement and experience in humanitarian response work, preferably in field-based protection work in conflict or insecure environments; strong conceptual, analytical and strategic thinking capabilities; strong understanding of gender-related aspects of protection work; project management;  knowledge of and experience of working in Yemen and/or Middle East. Arabic language skills will be a big advantage.

 

Key Deliverables

  • Provide specialist protection advice and support to Oxfam’s humanitarian response in Yemen  including regarding engagement with armed non-state actors and ensuring independence and impartiality in providing services.
  • Develop a comprehensive protection analysis of the Yemen conflict, including violations of IHL and human rights, access to humanitarian assistance, GBV, gender analysis, child protection, tribal and ethnic discrimination.
  • Input to Oxfam’s response strategy in line with global protection goals to include ensuring safe programming across the humanitarian response. Identify the potential to develop specific protection activities or projects and ensure coherence and effective linking with Oxfam’s development work in Yemen.
  • Support advocacy and campaigning on protection issues within the context of Oxfam’s Rights in Crisis Campaign.
  • Represent Oxfam with key protection actors such as ICRC, UNHCR, IOM, OCHA and actively participate in the Protection Cluster and relevant Areas of Responsibility.
  • Manage the implementation of protection activities and line management of protection staff and/or team (including technical matrix management if required)
  • Provide capacity-building on protection issues to the Yemen team and partners including on safe programming (avoiding inadvertent harm and ensuring conflict sensitivity) across Oxfam`s WaSH and EFSVL activities.
  • Participate in Oxfam’s internal Protection Peer Group and contribute to Oxfam’s global strategic thinking on protection
