Islamic Relief Worldwide is looking to recruit a Head of Media and External Relations based in London or Birmingham, with regular travel between both places of work, who will be responsible for developing an impactful media strategy for Islamic Relief Worldwide and leading its implementation.

Coupled with the expectation to build an effective global external relations function in collaboration with key contacts and leading partner offices in Europe, North America and the Middle East, the successful candidate is also accountable for developing and delivering a strategy that realises the full potential of social media to build the Islamic Relief brand, reach new audiences, communicate key messages, and increase donor and campaigner engagement. Equally important, s/he must be able to lead the department in operating professionally on all fronts and supporting broader IRW corporate and IR family objectives where needed by, for instance, contributing towards providing strong executive leadership for the Division alongside the Director and Senior Management Team, to deliver on all activities

It is essential that the candidate is educated to degree level in a relevant subject/discipline. Additional relevant postgraduate qualification(s) in communications/marketing/media/public relations/public affairs is advantageous. Likewise, fluency in another language apart from English is also highly desirable, particularly Arabic. The successful candidate should have significant experience of leading and managing media relations and social media engagement for a high-profile organisation – including crisis management Furthermore, s/he must be skilled in securing media interest and coverage, and in responding effectively to media enquiries, as well as be literate in the workings of social media and proficient in the use of social media/digital platforms. Related to this is an ability to assimilate complex information swiftly and communicate it accurately and with clarity.
