We are looking for a proven strategist and effective influencer to join us as Head of Emergency Cash Unit, to provide cross-organisational leadership on emergency cash and economic programming, ensuring that Save the Children is fit for purpose to deliver, timely, high quality, multi-purpose cash in its emergency responses.

Working in more than 120 countries, we do whatever it takes to create breakthroughs in the way the world treats children. Our Humanitarian department increases our capacity to meet the assistance and protection needs of children and their families affected by crises. Together with our country offices, we save children’s lives, fight for their rights and help them fulfil their potential.

In this high profile role as Head of Emergency Cash Unit, you drive Save the Children’s work in cash-based programming, harnessing the expertise and innovation to inform the strategic direction. You will influence the most senior decision makers and develop a strategy and roadmap for action.  You will champion innovation and as drive forward ideas such as the Collaborative Cash Delivery platform.  In addition you will:

  • Lead on the development and delivery of the cross-organisational cash strategy
  • Explore and realise innovations in Cash Transfer Programming (CTP) through developing private partnerships
  • Build a high performing team to deliver on our ambition
  • Work closely with country offices and partners to ensure Save the Children has fit for purpose cash preparedness plans in place for high risk countries
  • Work closely with Save the Children International (SCI) Cash Operations Team to ensure Save the Children has fit for purpose policies and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in place for its emergency cash programming
  • Alongside the other Collaborative Cash Delivery Platform members, plan cash preparedness work in selected countries
  • Deploy as part of Save the Children’s Initial Response Team to set up cash and market responses in large scale new emergencies.

To be successful in this role, you will have significant experience in the humanitarian sector with a Masters degree or equivalent in a relevant field. A proven leader you will have the ability to inspire others to achieve goals for children, deliver results and communicate with impact. In addition, you will have:

  • A proven track record of strategy development and developing and delivering new initiatives
  • Experience of working with coordination bodies of large-scale emergencies, such as the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) or Cash Working Groups
  • Experience working with and coordinating diverse groups of NGOs and actors and the UN in humanitarian response contexts
  • Experience in and enthusiasm for coaching, mentoring and on the job training, capacity strengthening and partnership building.
  • Familiarity with humanitarian codes, principles and practice, such as the Core Humanitarian Standards, Sphere Handbook and the SEEP (The Small Enterprise Education and Promotion Network) Minimum Economic Recovery Standards
