We work to prevent and overcome situations that adversely affect community well-being by: reinvigorating the economy, developing skills for life and work, providing humanitarian aid, and influencing policy.

It is in this context that Adeso is seeking an exceptional Country Director for the Somalia program to provide outstanding, innovative leadership and expertise to manage strategically the design and delivery of the programmes based in Somalia. Responsible for over 200 staff in Kenya and Somalia, the successful candidate will have a profound knowledge of the development landscape in East Africa and especially experience working in fragile states. They will also have proven experience in building partnerships with public and private sector organisations as well as community based organisations in order to help and deliver Adeso’s strategic ambitions and outcome for the country of Somalia.

The successful candidate will have a secondary degree in a relevant subject, significant experience working in, leading and managing in a complex humanitarian environment, experience of working in Sub-Saharan African context and proven success in the resource mobilisation for new programmes with a range of public and private sector stakeholders from grass root communities to governments and multinational or local commercial organizations.

Adeso has offices in Kenya, London and Washington DC. This position will be based in Nairobi with frequent travel to project sites in Somalia. Qualified international applicants (including those from the Somalia diaspora) with history of working on USAID, EU and DfID projects will be sought.
