Médecins Sans Frontières – Ärzte ohne Grenzen e.V. (MSF Germany) is the German section of the international medical aid organisation Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) which focuses on medical humanitarian aid in crisis situations worldwide. MSF was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1999.
MSF Germany supports MSF’s global field operations by recruiting and deploying skilled and motivated staff, raising awareness of humanitarian issues in Germany and fundraising. MSF Germany is one of 19 MSF sections and is part of MSF´s Operational Centre Amsterdam (OCA), through which the majority of the field personnel and funds it generates are channelled. Within the OCA, which comprises MSF sections in the UK, Holland and Germany, MSF Germany is also directly supervising field operations in eight countries. In 2013 the German office facilitated about 250 departures of volunteers with a German contract to work for MSF in the field. Currently the offices in Berlin and Bonn have about 80 permanent positions plus nearly 50 temporary and student employee positions.
Overall Objectives of the Position:
- The Director HR ensures that MSF Germany provides the MSF movement with skilled and motivated human resources that meet the requirements of field operations;
- The Director HR ensures that MSF Germany disposes of the human resources necessary for the section to fulfil its key roles in Germany, and that MSF Germany acts as a responsible employer;
- The Director HR provides appropriate leadership and management to enable MSF Germany’s Human Resources Department to perform strongly;
Your Profile:
- Academic degree and professional training in Human Resources;
- At least ten years relevant work experience including at least five years in a senior management role;
- Relevant experience in an NGO or corporate multinational environment. Prior MSF experience a strong asset;
- Genuine interest in and commitment to humanitarian principles;
- Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills in English, at least a basic command of German plus a demonstrated willingness to learn the language;
- The capacity to think strategically and analytically and to translate ideas into tangible results;
- Interest in using new communication tools such as social media for recruitment purposes;
- Strong interpersonal skills and commitment to team work;
- The ability to withstand stress and work toward tight and demanding deadlines;
- Availability to travel regularly.
