Head of Inclusive Development

We are seeking an innovative and passionate Head of Inclusive Development to join us and be at the centre of Save the Children’s ‘Every Last Child’ global campaign to ensure all children worldwide have the ability to access essential services such as health, education and nutrition.

Our Policy, Advocacy, and Campaigns division is where we drive political agendas at national and global levels. We’ve integrated lobbying, policy, research and campaigning into one agile, powerful engine for change. Together, we save children’s lives, fight for their rights and help them fulfil their potential.

‘Every Last Child’ is Save the Children’s global campaign for the realisation of Sustainable Development Goals. The campaign will tackle some of the key reasons certain children are left behind, and will work to ensure 15 million of the world's forgotten children have access to lifesaving health care and quality education. Building on our groundbreaking work on inequality, in this pivotal role you will drive our work on inequality and exclusion, as well as our work on fair finance and accountability to children, developing our policy and maintaining our thought-leadership on the issue. You will:

• Provide thought leadership and ensure Save the Children’s global advocacy and campaigning on inequality and exclusion is cohesive, evidence-based  and compelling, and delivers lasting change for children.
• Lead, along with the Director of Partnerships, the Director of PPQ and the private sector adviser, a regular flagship research output on the role of the private sector in transforming the lives of children worldwide.
• Publish, by the end of our current strategy period, a world-class piece of analysis on the future of development financing, establishing leading edge positions on global tax, domestic resource mobilisation, innovative financing, debt and aid, working with the development finance adviser.
• Coordinate work to better understand and address exclusion, including its causes, impacts, and evidence around policy interventions to tackle exclusion.
• Coordinate work on improving accountability to children, including on child participation, budget tracking and monitoring and reporting.
• Be a visible and credible voice externally, strengthening Save the Children’s global profile on the above issues.
• Lead the Inclusive Development team to deliver high impact results.
• Play a lead role in Save the Children’s global policy work, and support advocacy work at the national level in developing countries
• Play an active part in the Senior Leadership Team of the Policy and Advocacy Division.
• Build relationships with and influence key target governments and other global policy makers, academics, think tanks, and NGOs.
• Ensure our Inclusive Development work and approach adheres to Save the Children’s mission, values and behaviours.
• To carry out the responsibilities of the role in a way which reflects Save the Children's commitment to safeguarding children in accordance with the Child Safeguarding Policy.
• A commitment to Save the Children’s vision, mission, values and approach.

To be successful you will be a natural leader with the passion and drive to go the extra mile to ensure our work reaches the hardest-to-reach children. Educated to master’s level in a relevant field, you will be a skilled advocate with experience of influencing key decision makers and of managing teams of experts to deliver high quality policy and research. You will also have:

• A solid understanding of advocacy in the context of a large NGO
• Excellent analytical, policy development and research skills
• The proven ability to lead, motivate and manage a diverse team of professionals
• A strategic approach and understanding of, and passion for, advocacy and campaigns
• Experience of coalition building and working with other civil society actors to deliver change
• The ability to manage multiple demands and drive progress in a fast-paced challenging environment.

You must also be able and willing to travel up to six weeks per year.
