Our Policy, Advocacy, andCampaigns department is where we drive political agendas at national and global levels. Together, we save children’s lives, fight for their rights and help them fulfil their potential.

As Policy and Research Adviser you will be expected to make a substantial contribution to Save the Children’s policy and advocacy on the Sustainable Development Goals, including the international pledge to ‘Leave No One Behind’. Acting as the research and policy lead for Save the Children’s advocacy objectives, you will work closely with colleagues in the UK and internationally to plan, conduct and support cutting edge research and policy to support high level advocacy. In addition you will:

  • Develop and implement a research, policy and advocacy stream on supporting excluded children to participate in policy processes and make their voices heard
  • Lead on and contribute to the development of succinct reports and policy briefings, tailored to influence specific audiences and targets
  • Contribute to strategic horizon scanning for Save the Children, helping to identify policy and research trends and future research priorities for the organisation
  • Support Save the Childrens participation in NGO coalitions and work closely with other NGOs, partners and networks to progress our objectives.

To be successful you will have an academic/professional qualification at post-graduate level in Economics, Sociology, Development Studies or an equivalent Social Science. You will have the ability to analyse complex data and to summarise and communicate this in ways that are accessible to a range of audiences and cultures. An understanding of the SDG agenda and key political and thematic issues is also essential. In addition you will have:

  • Experience and a track record of success in advocacy and policy research
  • Qualitative research experience and a sound understanding of research methods
  • Cultural sensitivity and the ability to build relationships and deliver outcomes across a range of contexts
  • Experience of working in developing country contexts, preferably on advocacy or policy development
  • Strong communications skills at a level appropriate for external representation and the ability to tailor communications to different audiences.

At Save the Children we are committed to the safeguarding and protection of children in our work. We will do everything possible to ensure that only those who are suitable to work with children are recruited to work for us. This post is subject to a range of vetting checks including a criminal records disclosure.

Our mission is to inspire breakthroughs in the way the world treats children and to achieve immediate and lasting change in their lives. If you share our mission, are passionate about making it happen and strongly believe you can contribute then join us and we'll give you every opportunity to succeed.
