Contract length: 1 year fixed term


The role

The Head of Programme (HoP) Education leads and manages Save the Children Myanmar’s education team in the implementation of a growing and new portfolio of education projects. The post holder provides technical and managerial oversight, capacity building and support to the team. The HoP ensures that the projects that make up the Education portfolio are implemented in line with agreed plans, that they are effectively managed and that Project Managers and their teams are responsive to changing internal and external factors. The HoP ensures that projects have appropriate Monitoring & Evaluation plans that link to the programme wide Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL) system and that experience and learning from the delivery of projects contributes to advocacy work and informs ongoing project and programme design.

Qualifications and experience

  • Undergraduate degree in education, social sciences or other relevant field
  • Minimum of 7 years’ experience in development programming in the Education sector
  • Five years’ experience in managing more than one development project
  • Proven experience in effective programme planning and strategic management, monitoring and evaluation, project development and report writing;
  • Experience of developing and supporting teams, and the ability to lead, motivate and build the capacity of teams
  • Strong ability to work in a participatory way, strong facilitation skills, and strong ability for true and empowering delegation
  • Ability to analyse information, evaluate options and to think and plan strategically
  • Experience and demonstrated strong knowledge of effective financial and budgetary control and of managing grants
  • Ability to, and experience of, delivering training in the Education sector
  • An in-depth understanding of national and international development issues related to Education sector programmes
  • Demonstrated skills in networking and advocacy and understanding of policy reform in the education sector
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills.
  • Results focused and ability to develop and drive innovative programmatic and operational solutions
  • Fluency in written and spoken English. Knowledge of Burmese is an asset.
  • Commitment to and understanding of Save the Children’s aims, values and principles.
  • Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally when required.
