The International NGO Safety & Security Association (INSSA) is a non-profit global membership association of individuals, supported by organizations, committed to improving the quality and effectiveness of safety and security for humanitarian relief and development assistance workers operating in complex and dangerous environments around the world. INSSA does this through four main avenues of programming:  Advocacy, Collaboration, Education & Professional Development, and Standardization.

The Association Coordinator will support the continued growth and sustainability of INSSA and will be responsible for the day to day management of INSSA’s administration and main avenues of programming. Developing new networks and capturing opportunities for INSSA to strengthen its brand and services to its members are key to this position.The Association Coordinator reports to the Executive Director and will coordinate with the members of INSSA’s Executive Committee and with members of the Board of Directors.  The position is part-time (2-3 days/week) and should ideally be based in either Washington, DC or Dublin, Ireland.

Essential Job Functions

  • Corporate Administration: Strengthening consistent policies and procedures and managing INSSA’s administrative processes. Maintain the organization’s master calendar of meetings and events.
  • Monitoring: Monitoring progress of accreditation/standardization projects, Board of Directors’ action points, and other project processes.
  • Communication: Managing communications with INSSA’s diverse stakeholders. This may include conducting a membership survey to identify what INSSA services bring value and what additional suggestions the memberhsip might have; developing and distributing scheduled e-newsletters, annual reports, event communications and internal INSSA communications. Promote and disseminate INSSA relevant information via Twitter, YouTube, and other social media platforms. Monitor and provide links as appropriate to open-source material such as AlertNet, ReliefWeb, etc.
  • Online Presence:  Have a basic understanding of HTML and other web development/programming languages to support the maintenance and streamlining of INSSA’s website, fora and agenda management, new member management and social media presence.
  • Event planning: Supporting the planning and organizing of INSSA external events, as well as internal proceedings including support to Board of Directors meetings and management meetings.
  • Other tasks as assigned.

Prospective Candidate’s Profile

As INSSA is a rapidly growing organization, we are seeking an entrepreneurial candidate with capacity as a thought leader paired with a functioning knowledge and understanding of how to successfully manage numerous projects and tasks simultaneously with a high degree of quality and efficiency, with minimal oversight.

  • You are proactive, outgoing and can be counted on to work independently, as well as take direction in a team setting to produce quality outcomes in the form of successfully completed objectives. You are comfortable working with culturally diverse, virtual teams.You are hands-on and not afraid to be an original thinker, bringing creative ideas and solutions to the table. 
  • You excel in resource restricted environments and understand that strategic level investments of time and resources are critical to resiliency and continuity.
  • You have over 5 years of experience working in a management role within a not for profit organization or professional association, understand INSSA’s mission and constituency, and have experience in expanding and forming organizational frameworks in the context of an international not for profit organization or membership association.
  • You have advanced writing skills and excel in conveying concepts, strategies and plans clearly and efficiently. Knowledge of the international humanitarian and development donor community, including US and other national/international governments, foundations, and grant making organizations.
