Explosive Remnants of War (ERW) Detection Dog Trainer and Mentor – Iraq

12 month Fixed Term Contract, Subject to Funding

The total salary package for this position is £42,640 - £46,924 GBP per annum*  including basic salary, hardship allowance and cost of living allowance.

About the Iraq programme:

Iraq is MAG’s longest-established programme, with around 400 national staff and 40 teams operating over 5 areas in Northern Iraq. Since 1992, MAG has released land back to local populations which has been used to build & improve infrastructure, including new roads, schools and hospitals. As well as conducting technical clearance work, MAG also delivers risk education to communities, to further reduce the threat to the life and limb of local populations. MAG Iraq works in close collaboration with national & regional authorities and the UN to ensure efforts are integrated into development strategies, to ensure maximum impact on the local communities we serve. 

About the role:

MAG is seeking an Explosive Remnants of War (ERW) Detection Dog (DD) specialist to join our programme in Iraq. You will be responsible planning and conducting training to support programme operations, including planning, coordinating and implementing the associated training materials. The role will also be responsible for advising and giving guidance to the operations MAG ERW DD projects, to ensure they are operating according to IMAS and MAG’s standards, policies and regulations.  

About you:

You must have experience of working with ERW DD or Mine Detection Dog’s, with a technical knowledge of ERW DD and handler training. It is essential that you also have the ability to contribute technical knowledge and clearance targets. You must be willing to take on the challenges of working in the developing world, as part of a flexible and committed team, to save lives in communities which need it most.
