We are looking for a committed and motivated individual to join us as a Programme Manager – Humanitarian Capacity Building, driving the Public Health Capacity Building Programme within the Humanitarian Capacity Building (HCB) team.

Our Humanitarian Department integrates emergency and development work, through our country programmes. It increases our capacity to meet the assistance and protection needs of children and their families affected by crises. Together, we save children’s lives, fight for their rights and help them fulfil their potential.

As the Programme Manager - Humanitarian Capacity Building, you will be responsible for the development and delivery of the Public Health Capacity Building programme and giving advisory support to the broader Humanitarian Capacity Building portfolio of specialist humanitarian programmes.  You will champion emerging innovations in learning, and practice diagnosis, design, delivery and measurement of learning and development initiatives.  Your role is crucial to building the skills and capability of humanitarians both within Save the Children and the broader humanitarian sector, in order that humanitarian responses are well staffed and fulfil the needs required, especially at national and regional level.

Your main responsibilities will focus on:

  • Managing the continued development of the Public Health Capacity Building programme.
  • Managing the delivery of quality learning programmes; including event management, managing mixed facilitation teams, running scenario exercises, coaching participants, assessment, marking and provision of feedback to learners.
  • Managing existing and building new and effective senior level partnerships across the Save the Children movement and with external humanitarian, academic and funding partners.
  • Managing the monitoring and evaluation of the outputs and impact of the Public Health Capacity Building programme.
  • Providing high quality senior level capacity building advisory support to the HCB team, wider Save the Children movement and partner initiatives.
  • Championing Save the Children’s humanitarian learning and development to the Save the Children membership and wider sector by implementing inspirational solutions and advocating HCB as Capacity Building thought leaders.
  • Contributing to the development and standardisation of tools, systems, and templates for the Humanitarian Capacity Building team to continue to increase the quality of the programmes delivered and to monitor their impact.

To be successful you will have experience working in training and capacity building, with a deep understanding of adult learning methodologies. With a can-do attitude and the ability to work on your own initiative, you will have excellent project management, problem-solving and organisational skills. Fluent written and spoken English is essential as is:

  • Experience of organising or helping to organise events
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work with people from a range of backgrounds and cultures
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • An understanding of and commitment to humanitarian work.

A knowledge of public health programming in a global context is an advantage, as is a relevant academic qualification in the field of humanitarianism/international development, social/political science, adult learning and development, or other relevant discipline.

At Save the Children we are committed to the safeguarding and protection of children in our work. We will do everything possible to ensure that only those who are suitable to work with children are recruited to work for us. This post is subject to a range of vetting checks including a criminal records disclosure.
