  • Media Development - We run philanthropic initiatives ranging from the creation of sustainable, independent news platforms to a wide range of journalism training programmes worldwide. Additionally, we fund the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism at Oxford University. At the heart of all our media development work are the Thomson Reuters Principles of accuracy, impartiality, independence and integrity.

We are now seeking an exceptional Deputy Director of Communications to implement and execute strategic and effective communications activities across the organization. This is an opportunity to land a senior role in a fast-growing corporate Foundation with a clear remit to influence and inform stakeholders internally and externally.Reporting to the Director of Strategy and Communications, the Deputy Director will be in charge of the management of a global team located in London and New York.

Key Responsibilities will Include:

  • Support the Director of Strategy & Communications in setting and executing all communications activities with a clear focus on the day-to-day management of the team.
  • Serve as main editor/copy editor for all communications and marketing materials and ensures brand consistency.
  • Draft sharp copy as required conveying clear and persuasive messaging on a number of complex topics ranging from human rights to legal reforms.
  • Drives ticket sales for Trust Women, the Foundation’s global flagship yearly event.
  • Identify high profile opportunities to profile the Thomson Reuters Foundation and its work through media, conferences, events and partnerships.
  • Build consensus and foster key relations with other departments within the Foundation, the Thomson Reuters enterprise, and strategic external stakeholders.

Qualifications
Required Skills:

  • Has documented solid professional experience in communications and journalism. Given the fast-paced nature of the job, TV experience is a plus.
  • Possesses strong written and proofreading skills (shortlisted candidates will be required to submit sample of their work and asked to sit a writing test).
  • Has rigorous attention to detail and a strong focus on accuracy.
  • Thrives in an exceptionally fast-paced environment with a flexible approach to working hours.
  • Is able to work under pressure and prioritizes accordingly.
  • Has outstanding people’s skills and experience in managing dynamic teams.
  • Is enthusiastic, intuitive, tenacious, disciplined, focused and hardly motivated.
  • Has a solid media book and experience in pitching to high profile media outlets.
  • Has a good understanding of social media communication tools and language.
  • Experience and/or a understanding of social, humanitarian and environmental issues would be preferable.

Desired Skills:

  • Experience in marketing
  • Exposure to working for a non-profitable organization
