CARE has a mission to defeat poverty wherever it exists. For the past 75 years, CARE has improved the lives of the world’s most vulnerable people by working to tackle the root causes of poverty. CARE’s large-scale, evidence-based programs, powerful advocacy and coalition building have contributed to historic reductions in global poverty. But while global poverty is on the decline, economic insecurity is a growing issue in the United States. An examination of these issues in the U.S., combined with compelling evidence from CARE’s poverty fighting work around the globe reveal the promise that CARE could deploy a powerful and proven intervention, Village Savings and Loan Associations, to improve the lives and futures of more than 1-million Americans. CARE will pilot the VSLA model in two or more target communities in the Atlanta metro region. The initial phase will focus on refugee, immigrant and low socio-economic status populations. This effort will run distinct prototypes in different contexts that deliver relative proof points and seeks to consolidate information to drive rapid iteration for scale.

The CARE Domestic VSLA team will include a full-time program director, reporting in to the Director of CARE’s Atlanta Global Innovation Hub. The project team will receive technical support from CARE’s VSLA team from the senior director and technical advisory team. CARE will build partnerships with local organizations with deep local experience and ongoing programming to deliver the model to the program participants. The pilot phase will last for 24-months to demonstrate proof of concept and generate initial results. It is expected that following the 24-month pilot, this initiative will transition from the Innovation team to a programming function dedicated to US operations. That function has not yet been defined. CARE is seeking a leader in brokering unique and powerful partnerships, implementing a proven model in a new environment and using lean design tools to test the concept. In collaboration with CARE’s Innovation and VSLA teams, this leader will have the opportunity to build a model that will has potential to scale nationally. Based in Atlanta, reporting to the Executive Director of the CARE Atlanta Global Innovation Hub and partnering closely with the Chief Innovation Officer, the Program Director will be the lead on the pilot effort. S/he will be responsible for identifying and managing partner relationships and to deliver sustainable savings groups. The ideal candidate will be a relationship builder who will demonstrate resourcefulness, creativity, and respectful persistence in forging new relationships with a myriad of external stakeholders. This leader will thrive in ambiguity and be known for a balance of creativity (especially in brokering partnerships) and operational excellence – being able to take a glimmer of an idea and drive it into reality.

Qualifications:

• 2-5 years of management consulting experience at a high performing firm
• Bachelor’s degree in business, communications, public administration and/or a related field required
• Proven ability to take a new idea and bring it to market - this can be a start-up or a new initiative within an existing organization.
• Proven ability to envision and develop a strategic plan; self-starter who can see the big picture while executing programs and delivering results
• Strong written communications skills, along with highly effective oral communications and engaging presentation skills
• Excellent interpersonal and networking skills. High level of comfort and effectiveness working with community organizations
• Results-oriented with the ability to work under pressure, adapt easily to changing situations and priorities, and meet multiple deadlines and goals
• Experience of dealing with a wide variety of stakeholders and resolving challenging situations
• Personal flexibility to travel within and outside of the USA and to work evenings if required
