Joanne Sawyer

Head of Special Projects, TrustLaw


Joanne Sawyer joined TrustLaw in 2021, initially as Interim Head of Legal, and then as Head of Special Projects from 2022. In her current capacity, she oversees the development and delivery of a number of strategic initiatives and special projects, including the legal support available to media organisations and journalists.

Jo has extensive experience in human rights, having worked in a variety of strategic litigation and policy/advocacy roles at international and UK NGOs (including the European Human Rights Advocacy Centre and Interights) and the UK Parliament’s Joint Committee on Human Rights. Prior to joining TrustLaw, Jo was Interim Deputy Chief Executive and Director of Programmes at LawWorks.

Jo qualified as a barrister in England and Wales. She has a LLM in Public International Law from King’s College, London and a LLB in English and French Law from the University of Kent.
