October 2020: We are excited to share with you the guide “Análisis comparativo de acceso a la información pública en América Latina”, a collaboration between the Thomson Reuters Foundation – TrustLaw, Fundamedios, Ferrere Abogados, Philippi Prietocarrioza Ferrero DU & Uría, Ritch, Mueller, Heather y Nicolau, S.C., KLA - Koury Lopes Advogados & Obrador Digital SpA.

Ecuador adopted a law on access to information in 2004, which civil society organisations believe that is now outdated as it doesn’t reflect the new challenges posed by the digitalisation of Ecuador.

The Thomson Reuters Foundation recognises that the impact of data and technology on people are among the biggest challenges of our time. Through its global pro bono service, TrustLaw, we produce ground-breaking legal research to drive social change.

We hope that this guide that compares how access to public information is regulated in Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, and Peru becomes a valuable tool to advance Ecuadorian legislation on the matter.
