The AI Company Data Initiative (AICDI) is the world’s largest dataset on corporate AI adoption.
Through a voluntary survey grounded in UNESCO’s Recommendation on the Ethics of AI, we support businesses to map their AI use. Through this process, they can harness opportunities for responsible AI deployment, and mitigate operational risk.
We work with a coalition of investor signatories who use AICDI data to inform responsible investment decisions and drive long-term value.
Data is also available publicly through our insights and annual reports.
About
Businesses across the globe are rapidly embracing AI tools. Yet there is limited data on how companies are using AI, and the effect of this on people, society, the environment, human rights and data rights.
The private sector is critical to ensure that AI develops in the public interest. Through AICDI, we guide companies of all sizes to share information on how AI is embedded in their operations, products, and services, empowering them to mitigate risks to people and society.
The AICDI survey goes beyond maturity metrics and encourages companies to consider a range of factors, including:
- the impact of AI on the workforce and worker protections
- environmental considerations
- organisational AI ethics
- data privacy and bias.
Developed with leading companies and UNESCO, the survey is grounded in the first global standard on AI ethics.
Through the AICDI, we are building a multi-industry dataset on corporate AI adoption, to improve transparency and create a benchmark for best practice. With this data, we can:
- strengthen corporate AI governance
- promote responsible AI practices in the private sector
- shape responsible investment decisions
- support regulatory and policy development
- provide unique insights for researchers.
March 2026
Responsible AI in practice: Our first AI Company Data Initiative report
Companies worldwide are adopting AI faster than governance frameworks can keep up, creating a growing transparency gap and increasing risks for businesses, workers, investors and society.
To help address this, we partnered with UNESCO to launch the AICDI, the world’s largest dataset on corporate AI adoption.
Our findings show a clear pattern: organisations are moving quickly to adopt AI, but many still lack the mechanisms to manage its risks..
Ways to get involved in the AICDI
Companies
Taking part in the AICDI allows companies to benchmark their use of AI, manage their risk, and demonstrate leadership in responsible AI governance.
Investors
The AICDI provides voluntary data on how global companies are using AI, enabling investors to identify risks and opportunities for their portfolios.
Researchers and Civil Society Organisations
The AICDI offers the world’s largest dataset to study corporate AI adoption across industries, providing comparative data which can inform policy recommendations and ethical standards.
