LONDON (November 6, 2020) – Global human rights leaders, innovators, media experts and business chiefs will speak at the Thomson Reuters Foundation’s annual forum Trust Conference, held on November 11 online.
With 1,000 delegates from all over the world attending the live panel discussions, the forum will focus on how the current global health emergency has redefined the drive for more inclusive economies, caused unprecedented threats to media freedom and has impacted on our data rights. Through a mixture of keynotes, live panel discussions and breakout sessions, participants will also explore how we might reshape our recovery post-Covid.
Speakers this year include: Nobel Laureate Muhammad Yunus, Chief Executive of Oxfam GB Danny Sriskandarajah, Executive Director of the Committee to Protect Journalists Joel Simon, Creative Director of Eco-Age Ltd Livia Firth, Global Opinions Writer of the Washington Post Rana Ayyub, Director of Technology, Media and Communications at Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs Anya Schiffrin, Professor of Globalisation and Development at the University of Oxford Ian Goldin, Technical Research Manager at Stanford Internet Observatory Renée DiResta, Investigative Journalist and Vice-Chair of the International Press Institute Khadija Patel, Associate Professor at UCLA and Author of Algorithms of Oppression Safiya Noble, and Co-Founder and Director of Tandem Research Urvashi Aneja.
“The world is struggling to keep pace with the unprecedented and catastrophic challenges posed by the pandemic,” says Thomson Reuters Foundation CEO Antonio Zappulla. “But how do we counter the inequalities that prevent us from protecting the most vulnerable in society; how do we protect the free-flow of independent and accurate information and those that strive to uphold it; how do we address the dangers and risks to our privacy and fundamental human rights, driven by our increased reliance on technology?
“Reflecting the work of the Thomson Reuters Foundation, this is a unique forum for a unique moment in time, where we might re-imagine a post-pandemic world, with a renewed focus on equality and sustainability.”
Trust Conference mirrors the work of the Thomson Reuters Foundation, which harnesses the combined power of its journalism and legal expertise, and its position as a global convener, working towards strengthening the ecosystem for more inclusive economies, protecting free media globally and supporting the drive to advance human rights around the world.
