Professor Yeğinsu serves as Deputy Chair of The High Level Panel of Legal Experts on Media Freedom, the independent advisory body to the Media Freedom Coalition of States, of which the Thomson Reuters Foundation hosts the Secretariat. He has built global renown acting as lead counsel in landmark freedom of expression and journalistic protection cases before the UK Supreme Court, European Court of Human Rights, Inter-American Court of Human Rights, and other international tribunals.

Ragunath Ramanathan 

Ragunath (Raghu) Ramanathan joined Thomson Reuters as President of the Legal Professionals business on February 1, 2024. Previously, Raghu was the Chief Revenue Officer of SAP Business Technology Platform where he drove business growth and customer success in data and analytics, artificial intelligence, application development, automation, and integration solutions. 

With more than 25 years of experience, Raghu is a recognized business leader in how technology can benefit consumers and businesses. He has a proven track record for introducing innovative commercial models that drive adoption and growth, as well as maintaining a strong reputation for building deep understanding of customer needs. He has lived and worked in 14 countries and across seven industries in roles at SAP, Barclays Group, Bluesoft Inc., and McKinsey & Company. 

Raghu holds a bachelor’s degree in engineering from Coimbatore Institute of Technology in India and an MBA from the Indian Institute of Management in Ahmedabad.

Laura Clayton McDonnell

Laura A. Clayton McDonnell is the President of the Corporates business segment at Thomson Reuters, focused on customer and cultural transformation, driving positive results, growing market share, and developing high performance teams. She has extensive sales management and legal experience and has held executive-level positions at leading companies in the high technology industry including ServiceNow; Microsoft; Aspect Software; IBM; Rational Software; and various senior sales and legal roles at Sun Microsystems, Cisco and Apple. Prior to making the jump to corporate America, Laura was in private corporate and securities law practice.

Laura has been honoured many times for her work including as the 2022 Top 100 Global Sales Leader, sponsored by The Modern Sale and Collective[i]; and as a recipient of the 2008 YWCA Silicon Valley Tribute to Women Award. She is an avid champion of women and is a member of the Advisory Council of the Center for Equity, Gender and Leadership, University of California at Berkeley and is a member of the Women’s Forum of New York. Laura serves on the board of directors of Signal AI, a private company, which provides insights for entities from data collected from traditional and social media.

Laura received a Bachelor of Science degree “with distinction” from San Jose State University, and a JD-MBA joint degree, from the University of California, at Berkeley. Laura is licensed to practice law in the District of Columbia and the State of California.

Katie is the Director of Responsible Business at Thomson Reuters Foundation working with companies, investors, lawyers, and civil society leaders to foster more responsible business practices pertaining to their human capital. Prior to joining Thomson Reuters Foundation, Katie was Chief Executive of The Social Innovation Partnership, a social enterprise that supports local government, philanthropists and companies to deepen their social impact through participatory research, user-led design and systems innovation. Katie previously spent a decade in the child rights INGO sector and has also managed extensive portfolios of public health consultancy for the UN, World Health Organisation and numerous global foundations across the global south. Katie is passionate about unlocking data and insights that will drive a rights-based approach to economic development. Anya Schiffrin

Anya Schiffrin is the director of the Technology, Media, and Communications specialization at Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs, and a senior lecturer who teaches on global media, innovation and human rights.

She writes on journalism and development, investigative reporting in the global south and has been published extensively over the last decade on the media in Africa.

More recently, she has become focused on solutions to the problem of online disinformation, earning her a PhD (with honors) on the topic from the University of Navarra.

She is the editor of Women in the Digital World, (Routledge, April 2023) Global Muckraking: 100 Years of Investigative Reporting from Around the World (New Press, 2014) and African Muckraking: 75 years of Investigative journalism from Africa (Jakana 2017).

She is also the editor of Media Capture: How Money, Digital Platforms and Governments Control the News (Columbia University Press 2021.)

Dr. Schiffrin’s work with economist Haaris Mateen on the valuation of news has been cited in the Atlantic, Financial Times, Los Angeles Times, New York Times, Washington Post, and many other publications.

She is a leading thinker and commentator on AI, publishing, media sustainability, mis- and dis-information, and media impact.

Francesco Bongarrà

Francesco Bongarrà

Francesco Bongarrà (Palermo, Italy, 1974) is an Ambassador at large of the Republic of San Marino and the Chairman of the OFCOM of the most ancient Republic in the world. Since January 2024, he is the Director of the Italian Cultural Institute in London. As an experienced reporter, Francesco was previously the Chief of the Parliamentary service of the Italian news agency ANSA, for which he was a correspondent in Berlin, London and Buenos Aires. For San Marino, he served as Permanent Representative at the International Maritime Organization in London and as non resident Ambassador to Perù.

Bongarrà lectures Parliamentary and Political journalism and Crisis communication at the LUMSA University in Rome. He is a Knight of Magistral Grace of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta, a Commander of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic and a Great Officer of the Order of Saint Agatha in San Marino. A Law graduate at Palermo University, he is a Visiting Scholar at Pembroke College, University of Cambridge, Honorary Senior Visiting Fellow at Bayes Business School.

Before ANSA, he worked at the Osservatore Romano, The Times, Reuters, BBC, as well as serving as Head of the Press Office at the Municipality of Palermo.

Vivian Schiller

Vivian Schiller joined the Aspen Institute in January 2020 as Executive Director of Aspen Digital, which empowers policymakers, civic organizations, companies, and the public to be responsible stewards of technology and media in the service of an informed, just, and equitable world.

A longtime executive at the intersection of journalism, media and technology, Schiller has held executive roles at some of the most respected media organizations in the world. Those include: President and CEO of NPR; Global Chair of News at Twitter; General Manager of NYTimes.com; Chief Digital Officer of NBC News; Chief of the Discovery Times Channel, a joint venture of The New York Times and Discovery Communications; and Head of CNN documentary and long form divisions. Documentaries and series produced under her auspices earned multiple honors, including three Peabody Awards, four Alfred I. DuPont-Columbia University Awards, and dozens of Emmys.

Schiller is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations; and a Director of the Scott Trust, which owns The Guardian.
