Mary Alice Vuicic

Mary Alice Vuicic is the Chief People Officer of Thomson Reuters, leading Human Resources, Communications, Government Affairs and ESG. Thomson Reuters is a global content-driven technology company operating in the business information services sector. Mary Alice has led Human Resources and Corporate Affairs at leading Canadian and global organizations. Prior to joining Thomson Reuters, she served as the Chief Human Resources Officer for LBrands. Previously, she was Executive Vice President, Human Resources and Labour Relations, at Loblaw Companies Ltd, Chief Administrative Officer at Shoppers Drug Mart and Chief People Officer at Walmart Canada. She chaired the HR Committee of the Business Development Bank of Canada for eight years until 2022. Mary Alice sits on the Board of Trustees of the Thomson Reuters Foundation and the Good Jobs Institute Advisory Board. She is an active member in the Toronto community and supports health, education and professional causes.

Mendi Njonjo

Mendi Njonjo

Mendi Njonjo is a seasoned global leader in the philanthropic and non-profit sector with over 20 years of experience advancing climate and social justice. She has a proven track record of leading high-performing global and multi-country teams. Her expertise lies in designing and scaling transformative initiatives that address entrenched structural challenges in partnership with the private sector, civil society, and governments.

Currently, Mendi serves as the Director of the KCB Foundation, driving initiatives that promote educational and economic empowerment in East and Central Africa. Previously, she served as Regional Director for East and West Africa at Hivos Foundation. Her extensive career includes leadership roles such as Director of Africa Projects for the Advocacy Project in Kampala, Uganda, and Washington, D.C., and as Africa Director for the Center for the Prevention of Genocide in Rosslyn, Virginia.

Her expertise includes economic empowerment, gender and women’s empowerment, climate change and environmental advocacy, fundraising, strategy development, risk management, operational excellence, and global non-profit programming.

Mendi holds a Master of Arts in Conflict Resolution from the University of Massachusetts, Boston, and a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Geography from the University of Nairobi, Kenya.

In addition to her professional accomplishments, Mendi is a founder and author. She established The Maarifa Project, an initiative committed to safeguarding and protecting African traditional knowledge with and from artificial intelligence. Her literary contributions include the forthcoming titles Wanjiru and the Magic of Millet (April 2025) and We Need New Words (June 2026). Mendi is also a board member of the Thomson Reuters Foundation.

Jim Smith

Jim Smith

Jim Smith spent more than three decades at Thomson Reuters, starting in a newsroom and ending as president and CEO from 2012 to 2020.

He also serves on the Board of Directors at Pfizer in New York; the Board of Trustees at the Brookings Institution in Washington, D.C.; and the Board of Governors at Marshall University in Huntington, WV. Jim is a graduate of Marshall, where he was inducted into the school’s business hall of fame in 2014 and awarded an honorary doctorate in 2017.

Natasha Parker

Natasha is the Director of Development at the Thomson Reuters Foundation, responsible for fundraising and partnership development for the organisation.

Natasha leads a team who secure income across institutional and bilateral donors, corporate foundations and the private sector, her team also obtain funding through a range of commercial products including bespoke training services. Natasha’s team play a key role in building programme delivery partnerships with leading global organisations, forming consortiums and securing specialist expertise to increase our reach and impact.

Previously, Natasha was Head of Corporate Partnerships at Macmillan Cancer Support, where she was responsible for leading an award-winning team focused on developing and securing shared value partnerships with Boots, Lloyds Banking Group and Aviva, as well as staff fundraising with the UK’s most loved brands including Marks & Spencer and Morrisons. 

Prior to this, Natasha was Deputy Director of Partnerships at Save the Children UK, where her sector leading team was responsible for winning and managing 7 figure partnerships globally, including Unilever, Reckitt Benckiser and GSK, as well as driving consumer brand engagement with Christmas Jumper Day, and raising millions of pounds for humanitarian appeals. Natasha has also held partnership management roles at the British Heart Foundation, and her previous career was at Disney, leading digital brand partnerships across the EMEA region.

Jenny Vereker

Jenny Vereker

Jenny Vereker is Global Director of Communications at the Thomson Reuters Foundation. Since joining TRF seven years ago, she has grown and led the Communications function, responsible for strategic internal and external communications across the organisation’s international portfolio of work that spans research and product launches to high-profile issue-led campaigns. Her remit also includes media relations and stakeholder engagement. During her tenure, she has overseen the Foundation’s external re-positioning from a small anti-slavery organisation to an international development organisation with a focus on press freedom, responsible business and access to the law.

With a background in journalism, Jenny was previously a national magazine editor on flagship titles at Hearst and Time Warner, and before that, held features editing and news editing roles across a range of media outlets.

Will Church

Will Church

Will Church is Director of Media Freedom Programmes at the Thomson Reuters Foundation. In his 12 years at the Foundation, Will has helped to develop a comprehensive media industry support programme working with journalists, newsrooms and the wider ecosystem, using the Foundation’s combined expertise in media and law.

Previously, as Head of Programmes and a project manager, he has overseen and run a portfolio of projects and strategic relationships in more than 60 countries, particularly in the Global South and emerging economies, with partners ranging from multilateral organisations, foundations and private institutions, to government agencies, NGOs, media companies and journalists.
